AMY ZHOU '20 | CO-PRESIDENT
Amy was born and raised in Colorado and is now a junior living in Quincy House. She has always been interested in economics and its interconnectedness with other fields. Aside from HUEA, Amy is the Operations Manager of Harvard Student Agencies Tutoring, a Business Associate of the Harvard Crimson, and the Co-founder of Harvard Fitness. In her spare time, Amy can be found taking Buzzfeed quizzes, exercising, or trying new restaurants with friends.
SHANGDA XU'18 | CO-PRESIDENT
Shangda, from Cheshire, Connecticut, is a current junior living in Adams. He plans on pursuing a concentration in Economics. This past summer, Shangda interned at Warner Bros. in a strategy and franchise management role. Outside of HUEA, Shangda is a member of the HCCG and VFG.
MATTHEW MILLER '21 | VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE
Matthew is a Sophomore in Quincy House and does not yet know his concentration. Growing up in Deerfield, Illinois, he became interested in economics while in high school. Matthew's involvement outside of HUEA includes serving on the dais of a committee for the Harvard Model United Nations high school conference, creating informative presentations on elephant conservation for Ugandan children through the Harvard College Conservation Society, and promoting voter registration among other initiatives through the Community Action Committee at the Institute of Politics. Two of Matthew's specific interests in economics are education markets and foreign direct investment, and he especially hopes to use the former interest to reduce cycles of poverty and the latter interest to bolster the economies of less economically developed countries.
CHRIS SCAZZERO '22 | FINANCE ASSOCIATE
Chris is a freshman in Matthews dorm originally from Westchester, New York. Most likely concentrating in Economics, he has always been interested in business and entrepreneurship and will likely continue pursue that here at Harvard. He also is passionate about Developmental Economics, doing extensive research and several internships related to third world economic development. In his free time, he plays club soccer and loves hiking.
ISABEL ORTEGA LAYA '21 | VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS
Isabel Ortega is a sophomore in Mather House studying Economics and Psychology. Coming from Madrid, Spain, her interest in economics arose the summer after her Junior year in high school where she attended her first economics class at Harvard Summer School. Her passion developed during high school and now transferred into college as she plans to study economics during her college career. Aside from HUEA, Isabel forms part of Women in Business and is a member of Harvard Women's Club Volleyball team. She is mainly interested in behavioral economics and decision-making.
LAURA ESPINOZA '22 | OPERATIONS ASSOCIATE
Laura Espinoza is a freshman living in Canaday planning to study Economics with a secondary in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. She was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland, where she found her passion through economics from examining social issues in nearby-Washington D.C. through a mathematical lense. At Harvard, Laura is a member of Fuerza Latina, the associate director of operations for Latinas Unidas' LEAD conference, and a member of the Institute of Politics. Throughout her undergraduate years, Laura hopes to study international economics with a focus in trade in developing countries.
JESSICA SCAZZERO '20 | VICE PRESIDENT OF EVENTS
Jessica is a junior in Leverett concentrating in Economics with a secondary in Statistics and Italian. After writing her IB extended essay on the implications of government cashless policies in Nigeria, she became passionate about development economics. She is currently working with a microfinance company and is conducting HBS research to help develop standards to measure the social return on investments. Aside from HUEA, she plays on the club basketball team and loves traveling and hiking.
SOPHIE SUN '21 | VICE PRESIDENT OF NEW INITIATIVES
Sophie Sun is a sophomore living in Mather House planning to major in Economics with a secondary in Computer Science. She is from Baltimore, Maryland, where she fell in love with economics because of its applications to daily life, especially how it relates to climate change. Besides HUEA, Sophie also plays on the Harvard Women's Club Volleyball team as a setter, communicates between the Harvard Student Agency's engineering team and clients as the Dev account manager, helps find sponsorships for HackHarvard as a member of the partnerships team, and loves playing piano and singing for late night jam sessions.
RYAN LEUNG '22 | HPEC GROWTH ASSOCIATE
Ryan Leung is a freshman in Straus planning to concentrate in economics with a secondary in East Asian Studies. He grew up in Hong Kong but moved to Lexington, MA, where he attended Lexington High School and participated in the Harvard Pre-Collegiate Economics Challenge twice (2017, 2018). He has always been interested in economics, especially international trade, and has published a research paper on the International Trade Organization in The Concord Review. In addition to HUEA, Ryan is part of the Harvard College China Forum, Harvard Program for Asian and International Relations, and the Harvard Economics Review. Ryan enjoys watching/playing various sports, eating dim sum, and traveling.
MICHAEL YIN '22 | HPEC GROWTH ASSOCIATE
Michael is a freshman in Canaday who plans to study Economics or Applied Mathematics/Ec. He hails from Maryland, and fell in love with Economics as a 9th grader when he took Microeconomics at the University of Maryland. Through co-founding his high school’s Economics Club, Michael developed a love of game theory and health economics. In his ample (not actually) free time, he enjoys singing in Harvard’s Collegium Musicum and Collegium Underground, learning to box/ballroom dance, and listening to economics podcasts.
JACK LI '21 | CO-VICE PRESIDENT OF PROGRAMMING
Jack is a sophomore considering a concentration in Economics. He grew up in Los Angeles, California, where he attended Harvard-Westlake School. Jack has been taking economics related coursework this semester and has a strong interest in economic history, finance, and business management. Aside from HUEA, Jack is a finance associate for HCURA; an analyst at HCBE and HFAC; and a member of HCIIG, PBHA, and the Novice Lightweight Crew.
DORY LI '21 | CONFERENCE PLANNING ASSOCIATE
Dory grew up in North Carolina and is now a sophomore in Currier House studying Economics and Mind, Brain, Behavior. She's particularly interested in the economics of healthcare and education. Outside of HUEA, Dory is a member of the Harvard College Consulting Group and plays clarinet in the Pops Orchestra.
