Initiatives
On campus, HUEA is the bridge to the Department of Economics, getting students closer to Harvard’s largest field of study and its world-class scholars.
Mentorship Program
Each semester, HUEA matches Harvard undergrads with economics PhD students and provides funding for monthly meetups to chat about courses, research, careers, graduate school, and perspectives from someone a few steps ahead. Students of all class years and concentrations are welcome to sign up to receive mentoring.
Sign-ups are currently open for the fall 2026 program with a deadline of September 20 for first-round matching.
What’s coming next
-
Research & Thesis Guidance
Figure out which subfields excite you, which faculty work in them, and how to reach out. We want to help students find RA positions (alongside the department’s RAP), run thesis circles, and connect juniors and seniors to the right advisor.
-
Faculty Access & Events
Get to know Harvard’s world-class Department of Economics outside of the lecture hall. We plan various events to foster these relationships, including faculty coffees/dinners, mixers, as well as a speaker series of talks, debates, and panels.
-
Reading Group
Join other students in a low-pressure, high-curiosity environment to dig into the ideas that interest you and shape the field. Talk about the history of economic thought, landmark papers, and timely themes like the economics of AI.
-
Navigating the Concentration
Get the insider advising only current econ concentrators can give: if and when to take Stat 110 and econometrics, how to choose electives, the sophomore tutorial, and the thesis timeline. This is a recurring workshop and a living resource.
